My Dear Partner…

When what’s left of you gets around to getting what’s left to be gotten, whatever’s left to be gotten won’t be worth getting, whatever it is you’ve got left!

When I figure out what that means, I’ll be sure to come up with a crushing reply.

Rapid-fire retro repartee brought to you by Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, a la White Christmas. LOVE the holiday classics.

What’s your favorite Christmas movie? (Debbie Does The North Pole does NOT count!)

Do tell!

Christmas Story, Jean Shephard used to have a program on public radio. It wasn’t limited to Christmas and it was great. He had a program for the fourth of July that I would really enjoy hearing again. I didn’t even see this movie until they started doing it 24 hrs on Christmas Eve. I would pick the Alister Sim version of A Christmas Carol as a second choice. You don’t often see guys using that spelling of Jean, but he does the narration.

L*O*V*E ‘Christmas Story’! The lamp: “Why, it’s a Major Award!” The Bumpus’s dogs, Little Orphan Annie and the Ovaltine betrayal, the Chinese turkey… And, of course, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” I just learned there was a second Christmas Story movie made a few years ago, but I have no idea what it’s about. Ralphie, all grown up, perhaps? Who knows… Could be terrible; could be great. I’d take a chance on finding out if I thought there might be another leg lamp. 😉

A Christmas Carol… Dickens was a master of misery. I’m personally a fan of Scrooged, with Bill Murray.

I like the animated short (about 30 minutes) The Snowman, based on the Raymond Briggs book of the same name. Wordless, wonderful fantasy, and it includes the beautiful song Walking in the Air.

My favorite Christmas movie? It has to be “Scrooge” with Albert Finney. I love the songs (Thank you very much…Thank You very much…) 🙂 and Finney does such a great job portraying the miserly Mr. Scrooge. A must see every Christmas.

Are you a fan of musicals, then?

(Looong pause while I picture you dressed in head-to-toe black with soot on your face, singing “Chim-Chiminey, Chim-Chiminey, Chim-Chim-Cheroo…”)

      *GRIN*

I love musicals! White Christmas (duh), Mary Poppins (double duh), all the Disney classics (read: the old stuff, pre-Little Mermaid)… I’m also fond of old movies that are not exactly musicals but that contain a random song or two, sung by the main character(s) for the benefit of the audience. Deborah Kerr does this in An Affair to Remember, Sophia Loren in Houseboat, Doris Day in Please Don’t Eat The Daisies and The Glass Bottom Boat and The Man Who Knew Too Much (and every other movie she ever made)… I’m fairly certain Doris Day was crowned the Queen of Random Songs one year at the Academy Awards. (And if she wasn’t, she should’ve been!)

My favorite movie musical is Down With Love, which is more than a little strange (my liking of it; not the movie itself) because I really don’t like Renee Zellweger. Hmmm. And then, of course, there’s the stage shows…

More than you ever wanted to know, I’m sure. 😉

Welcome to my world, Joel! 😀

LOL!!!…You have quite an imagination, Mrs. Fever … “Chim-Chiminey, Chim-Chiminey, Chim-Chim-Cheroo”…:) although I am big fan of Dick Van Dyke,so I’ll take that as a compliment; THANK YOU!

Yes, You guessed it, I love musicals, better yet is watching them live on stage. Love the Classic Movies also but mostly the ones in black and white.

        Thanks for the welcome. 😀
