“Me” Time

A good soak in the bath is one of life’s simple pleasures. The caress of warm water over tired muscles followed by tiny kisses of air trailing soothingly cool over heated skin, the quietude, the release of tension like unspent steam.

: sigh :

Simple pleasures. ๐Ÿ™‚

But as much as I’ve always enjoyed the healing found in such soft water, I rarely make time for the indulgence. What was once a weekly lazytime ritual for me has in recent years* become a luxury rarely afforded.

I rediscovered the enjoyment of of a hot soak during a pre-Christmas cold snap: chilling out in my tiny tub until my frozen bones warmed up, then cozying up with hot tea and cool story (or three).

My husband, who once discovered me in the bath during the early stages of our friendship and has never quite gotten over it, erotically speaking —

he found me steamy, wet, and oh-so-not-willing, which had an indelible effect on his desire;

“yes” will sate an appetite, but “not yet” drives a hunger, and

ever since that first day I made him wait, we have learned how a feast of famine feeds desire in the form of “no”

— was so thrilled at the fact that I’d not only had myself a lovely bath but had also sent him photos of the event, that he got me a fancy tin of bath bubbles for Christmas. ๐Ÿ™‚

Somehow I think I’ll find the time for a bit of bubbly… fun… in the days to come. (Or, perhaps, the days to cum.) ๐Ÿ˜‰

      I wonder if it’s a European thing?

I follow an American writer who has been living in Germany for a year, and she’s written about the popularity of baths in the EU countries she’s visited. Likewise, I’ve met Brits who are working/living in the states, and they all comment on how confounding it is to them, the American preference for showers.

I grew up taking baths as a child (there was no shower in my childhood home – only a clawfoot tub), but it’s been years… I’d forgotten how nice it was to have a soak until I took the time to relax that day. ๐Ÿ™‚

You look very relaxed. I do enjoy an occasional bath, and have been having several over the last week due to a muscle injury. I do love to lie back in lots of bubbles, but 20 minutes is usually enough for me.

Some years ago we had our bath removed, because I prefer to shower. But, when I see images like this and read about the luxury of a bath, I wish we still had one… lovely image, Feve!

When I actually stop to think about *preference*, it’s not to shower. Yet showering is what I do most often. Speed? Convenience? I think time of day plays into the equation too, because it just seems to ‘fit’ mornings better. But do I actually *prefer* showers over baths? No.

I wonder where these preferences come from. Perhaps it is in how we are raised.

I’m curious: Did you mostly shower growing up in South Africa?

I used to try for a weekly or at very least monthly bath, but it has been years for me as well. We’ve lived in the current condo for almost five years, and I might have taken one bath here. Maybe. I’m hoping for bigger tubs and more time for soaking in the future.

I try to book properties with big tubs when I vacation; something about ‘down time’ just lends itself well to a luxurious soak (or four). ๐Ÿ™‚
