Junuary
While many areas in the northern hemisphere are experiencing heat and warmth right now, the same cannot be said of Where I Live.
The sunlight is quietly gaining ground over the dark — today being the longest day of said light — but it does not typically bring ‘summer’ with it until some time in July.
Which means that — since gone are the days of being heated by my own internal furnace — I dress much the same during the January doldrums as I do during the June gloom: fuzzy sweaters and soft plaid are my favored adornments during this most wintry of summer months.
We are planning a getaway though. A short trip to the other side of the mountains – to a place we haven’t been in two years – where the high desert and apple valley attract sun rays that both sparkle and warm. Where the average temps are over 70 degrees and where it only occurs to the wind and clouds to visit during the winter dirge. A place where summer, when present on the calendar, actually feels like summer on the skin.
Maybe then I will break out the sundresses and sandals.
But for now…
…I will continue keep warm in my Junuary plaid.

We’ve had warmer temperatures for about two weeks now, but up to then I still wore ‘wintery’ clothes. Love the print of that top you’re wearing!

The general area where I live is starting to see temps in the 70s now, but my specific location – my home – has not seen that much warmth yet. Supposedly it will happen this week, starting Tuesday. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
i love plaid and only recently found a decent plaid shirt at Cotton On. I wear it as a shacket (another thing that I only recently discovered!)
Glad you’ll be getting to where the sunshine will be heating up your skin. Where I live it’s mostly hot, except for Dec and Jan when we get to oh.. maybe 65-70 at the coldest. May was crazy hot and scorchingly dry. It’s typically the hottest time of the year for us. And true to statistics, this week it has begun to rain, bringing slightly cooler nights and afternoons. Thank goodness. The humidity is still up there in the 90s tho.
I’m going to be Googling “shacket” now…
Still a little chilly where I am too

I feel ya.
Weather has been weird in NJ………….like riding a seesaw mounted on a rollercoaster. Still, your situation sounds worse, so you have my sympathy. Whenever I think of your area I think of either Jim Jarmusch’s “Dead Man” or Kesey’s “Sometimes a Great Notion”.
I don’t miss the dreadful humidity of eastern summers, but I *do* miss the trueness of seasons.
Gosh we had a hot burst of weather, then it slipped back to cold and wet, even to the point of having the heating on, so I can relate! Today was hot again, but I’m always fairly chilly – so I totally relate.
Your holiday destination sounds great though – I’d be looking forward to that too in your shoes.
Our Junuary weather has suddenly been overcome by a heat wave. I am loving it!
