Favorite Places

About a month back, one of the bloggers I read on the reg posted about their favorite places.

Specifically, he wrote about his favorites in a “my favorite place to…” format.

And it got me thinking about my favorite places to, too.

Like so:

My favorite place to sleep…

…is in my own bed, preferably under freshly-laundered covers. Especially after a long day/week, and particularly when I do not have to set an alarm for myself to get up in the morning. (Even though, inevitably, when I don’t have to get up early, my body wakes me up early regardless.)

My favorite place to dine outdoors…

…is at a small bakery/cafe that faces this bridge. While I cannot say the restaurant itself is “my favorite,” I *can* say that the experience of dining on their deck — alongside the water, with the gorgeous view in my sights — is one of my favorite things.

My favorite place to hike…

…is on a trail that follows a ridge, at a state park not far from my home. The views (through the trees) on the walk — of the water below and the mountains in the distance — are lovely, and given that the climate here leans toward ‘always chilly’, it’s especially delightful during the summer months, when the air is cool enough to keep the sweat off your skin but the sun gives you the energy to keep going. The park itself — while not my ‘favorite’ park — houses woodlands as well as waterfront, and if you time it right, you can get some beautiful photos at dusk.

My favorite place to read…

…is in my comfy blue reclining chair in my living room. Add a fire in the winter months, a cup of tea any time, and aaahhhh… This is my happy place.

.

What are YOUR happy places, hmmm?

.

This year’s A-to-Z Challenge at Temperature’s Rising is all about asking (and answering!) some get-to-know-you type questions.

I’d love to hear about your favorite places (or favorite places to…) in the comments below.

My happy places? Long before my wife and I were married or even dating we were best friends. We used to go to this mediocre 24-hour diner. The coffee was terrible but it was an endless cup. The breakfast was good and that is what she liked. For five or so years that was our spot. That was a happy place.

Now of course we are married, working, and can afford much better coffee. But I still miss that place.

Oh that’s lovely! No matter if the coffee is bad; if the company is excellent, then there is no such thing as a mediocre. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m so glad you visited — I have been enjoying your conspiracy theory posts, but have not been able to comment as there is no option for entering one using my url as an identifier; it only allows me to comment by first selecting my Google account… and I don’t have a Google account. Your assertion that “aliens must have done it” as an explanation for ancient structures being a racist point of view makes a lot of sense.

I suppose my favourite place is home. I have lived here for 47 years and know every nook and cranny and everything in it. When we are travelling in Australia my favourite place is wherever our caravan is. I can have a different view every day but all my things are around me and I know where they are.

There is comfort in being setled into one’s space, isn’t there? I am quite happy in my own home as well. It’s “mine” with all my personal touches and collections and messes, and I can just relax and be myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

The temps rarely get high where I live, but finding higher altitude usually cools me off when they do. Perhaps that’s equivalent to going to a hill station?

          Thanks for reading!

I have a couple of “extra happy” places in my home – a reading nook filled with plants and my little studio filled with treasures. Outside places include sitting by the river where my brother lives – it’s such a lovely experience visually and emotionally. I feel like I’m entering an entirely different universe from the urban environment that’s my norm. And another favorite place is a colony of beehives in a garden of wildflowers.

I often feel like I need to escape when I’m too long in an urban environment; I understand well what you mean about the “different world” feeling you experience when sitting by the river.

My favourite place to write in my office that my wonderful hubby created for me last year (it used to be our back bedroom that was used for storage boxes). He did it all out for me and it is my perfect place to create.
I’m very much a home body, so my favourite place to be is home.
My favourite holiday destination is British Columbia, Canada.
Favourite place to visit for art is The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (closely followed by The National Gallery in London).
And I shall shut up now – couldn’t think of anything to write when I started this comment.๐Ÿ˜‚

How lovely! To have a home work space created for you by someone you love must infuse that place with special feelings. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have not traveled to Amsterdam or London, but I do enjoy art galleries. Being in a visual-creativity show-space is delightful.

I suppose my most consistent ‘favorite places’ were both made by me and are both in my yard….. and therefore only enjoyable for the warmer months of the year. For daytime I like sitting on a park-style bench I have overlooking my ponds. It is shaded by a small arbor/pergola-type thing with vines strewn through it. For evenings, it would be the deck I have which also is capped with an arbor with vines and lit by strings of light. At night I refer to this deck and sitting area as my “Clean, Well-lighted Place” from the story of the elderly, nocturnal, cafe customer by Hemingway.

Inside I suppose it’s the sitting area in front of my fireplace.

I like your literary naming. ๐Ÿ™‚

I, too, enjoy my deck. It’s not a night-comfortable place due to too-cold temps (even in the warmest months) but it’s a happy place for sure.

Mm, this one makes me think so many bittersweet Covid thoughts. As in, I remember going there for coffee and to write – and it’s not there now.
I also love this park near my house with beautiful view of a railroad bridge. Love that pic and that spot. Here’s hoping the world goes back to “normal” soon.

I know what you mean. Some of the outside-my-home places I used to love are no longer open and/or accessible. I’m fortunate that my favorite coffee shops survived the last two years. Some of my small local businesses, however, did not.
