If it’s meant to be…
They divorced, after a million years of marriage, 23 years ago.
It’ll be…
He got remarried. She got remarried.
His second wife died. Her second husband died.
It’ll be…
This summer, after not seeing one another or interacting in any way for 23 years, they saw one another again at their first grandchild’s wedding.
Which *could have been* disastrous.
Except…
Baby just let it be.
So won’t you ride with me, ride with me?
See where this thing goes…
That fluttering feeling in the region of his chest turned out not to be a heart attack.
Her butterfly belly was not due to indigestion.
If it’s meant to be…
Acknowledging these things was the first step toward acknowledging other things. Past things.
It’ll be…
And the beginning of creating new things. Together.
It’ll be…
At the age of 88.
And 86.
Baby if it’s meant to be.

The September Song Project is an annual event I began in 2019, the purpose of which is to utilize music as muse.
The above story is true. And it is a reminder that — like the song says — sometimes what is meant to be, will be.
If you’d like to participate in this project and share your own musical musings this month — true or otherwise — please click the badge above.
Interesting. I doubt that happens often though. Especially since making it to that age and still wanting to be married to anyone seems like it would be rare. Hell, no one in my family ever even lived that long.
I think these two may well live to be 100. 🙂
