Sometimes a song slips inside of me like a tickling sensation under the skin of a ghost limb… Part of me but not of me… It creates a tingling awareness of the elusive ~ something there but not; an itch that cannot be scratched.
SLOW IT DOWN
Oh I want you now so please don’t let me down
Oh just shut your mouth and know that you are everything to me
Can we just let go of what we can’t control?
And if the world should spin too fast
I’ll slow it down for you
I still remember you, the dizzy dance with me and you
We lived our lives without a clue and never tried to find the meaning
Those days weren’t meant to last but I can’t ache for what is past
‘Cause I know what it means to be so close that I could see inside of you
Oh my friend nothing ever ends
Just look around ’cause this is right where you and I belong
Oh I want you now so please don’t let me down
Oh just shut your mouth and know that you are everything to me
Can we just let go of what we can’t control?
And if the world should spin too fast
I’ll slow it down for you
You know I loved a girl who said that I could change the world
if only I was brave enough to live the life in front of me
And these memories are fading fast they’re scattered like a broken glass
Will they be mended or as easily just swept away?
Oh my friend this is not the end
Just look around ’cause this is right where you and I belong
Oh I want you now so please don’t let me down
Oh just shut your mouth and know that you are everything to me
Can we just let go of what we can’t control?
And if the world should spin too fast
I’ll slow it down for you
Falling from this height
Just might break your life
Take a chance on me
The only way you’ll see
Twist your hand into mine
Don’t you leave this behind
If we’re losing time
I’ll slow it down for you
Oh I want you now so please don’t let me down
Oh just shut your mouth and know that you are everything to me
Can’t we just let go of what we can’t control
And if the world should spin too fast
I’ll slow it down for you
Slow it down for you
Slow it down for you
Oh I want you now so please don’t let me down
And if the world should spin too fast
I’ll slow it down for you
Summer love and winter rain you know they always fade away
But in the end you know you and I still remain

Listening to this, I only saw the words and the music, although beautiful, could easily be stripped away. I just love words and how they play in our mind. thx. xo
I’d like to believe that the muse Rzeznik invokes is the same as my own; most likely not, but it’s a fun fantasy. 😉
I feel that way about a lot of his music – his songs are strong enough that you can strip the music away, and the words can stand alone. It is a metaphor of sorts, I think, because the same can be said sometimes of people. Strip away all the trappings, all the exterior prettying-up and background melodies, and if they can still stand alone – bare and real – *that* is true poetic beauty.
Yes, I love his lyrics.- You make me think of how camping strips people down to the bare necessities like that.
Urgh.
I’ve had some… unpleasant… camping experiences throughout my life. It is, unfortunately, an activity I equate with Forced Family Fun under conditions of extreme financial and emotional distress. As a result, I no longer camp. (Though I will occasionally deign to ‘cabin’.)
My idea of ‘roughing it’ is staying at a Super 8. 😛
I laughed at Forced Family Fun. I started camping with a group of guys ( my cousin was why – his friends and their girlfriends ) but it was basically guys and their toys, evening party and hiking. Nothing forced – except the forced acceptance of no flushing toilets – please!!!
I would rather sleep in my car than some motels. The place we camp is at 7200 ft in the Sequoia forest. The last 2 times I have seriously considered the tiny hotel at the only store…but I can’t give up the evening campfire fun to then drive in pitch dark to it. Dilemma Dilemma
