I think I would have the fear of not having enough to read on hand, except for the fact that I have the keys to a medium-sized public library in my pocket. I have gotten up after dark more than once to drive the ten minutes to the library and get a book. I have even gone over there after hours for movies. What is life like for people who don’t run libraries?
Having the keys to the library would be a fantastic perk! I tend to frequent used book shops and thrift stores to stock up on “just in case” reading material. I have several shelves of books I haven’t yet read, but even though the titles are there, I sometimes feel like “I don’t have anything to read!!!” if those titles don’t suit my mood. (I understand some people are this way about the contents of their closets; not me. Clothes, schmoes. 😉 )
I’m the same way about having shelves and shelves of books that I haven’t read, and still not always having anything I want to read *now* (There’s nothing on the shelves I don’t want to read *ever*)
My Kindle app and my public library save me in that situation, however. (I like real books best, but I don’t turn up my nose at a different format, if it’s the only way to get a book I want to read.)
Still… my stockpile is mighty, I shall not want. ;-p Jz recently posted…Trouble’s A-Brewin’
I also tend to be “in the middle of” several books at once — four, usually. Because maybe I’d prefer a bit of Lisa Jackson’s sexy suspense on my lunch break but would prefer some Terry Pratchett absurdist observations on humanity before bed.
Etc.
I can barely get the hang of utilizing apps on my smart phone; I don’t think I’ll be Kindle-ing any time soon. Screens make my eyes tired, and there is just something somatically stimulating about the physical act of turning a page. I suppose I should get with the times, but I figure I’ll get around to that when I’m old. 😉
I have two shelf’s of “to read” books and I have a kobo with a fabulous screen and about 40 books “to read” waiting for me there. I eventually get to most of these books. If it stays on the shelf for too long, I get rid of it as I obviously won’t be reading it. Collaredmichael recently posted…Laughter!!
I have books that have been on my shelf for several months; a few gave been waiting for me to read them for a couple years. I don’t generally give away books just because I haven’t read them yet. I purchased them all knowing that while I may not read them immediately, I do *want* to read them, and I’ll get to it when I get to it. 🙂
