This week’s Wicked Wednesday prompt is ‘Social Media Inspiration’, which – in the outline/instructions – states specifically to use Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram as inspiration for a post.
I find this ironic, considering the much-felt-in-this-community censorship on those platforms.
But even if my refusal to support censor-driven social media platforms was not at issue here, the simple fact of the matter is that – outside of this little blog of mine – I do not engage in “social media” as thus defined.
I Face not. I am not a Twit. Nor am I a Grammy.
There are myriad reasons for this (and if you want to know, you’re welcome to ask), but really, the bottom line (heh – see what I did there? 😛 ) is:
I just can’t be arsed. 😉
I have wondered why you didn’t do twitter, but figured you had good reasons. Of the options (and really none of them are great), twitter is the easiest to fall into and engage with others in a meaningful way. They all are toxic in their special ways apart from the censorship bit.

The manipulative psychology behind the programming on those platforms is beyond George-Orwell scary. And the toxicity is intentionally fostered.
I live in Techland; when the big guns of Big Internet refuse to personally use (or allow their children to use) the platforms they create, you have to know it’s unhealthy.
We have spoken about why you don’t – well I asked you and admire you for your decision 😉
I appreciate that. People have made some interesting (and incorrect) assumptions about me in the past because I don’t.
I am quite curious to know why you don’t use it, but I have to say that at the same time I really admire you that you don’t. So many times I have thought about at least giving up FB but there is no way I would want to give up Twitter.
Love your image, and your play on words 🙂

Well, there are a lot of reasons really. I don’t like the invasion-of-privacy data mining or the vague-but-censurious TOS; I don’t like the addicted-to-the-phone behavior it creates and the resultant negative impact on in-person interactions; I don’t like the no-filter/say-anything-without-consequence bombardment of STUFF or the effects that has on people’s sense of mental/emotional well-being.
But even if those things were not problematic for me, I would still choose to stay social-media free. I parse information, communicate, educate, and advocate for a living. I love what I do, but it’s exhausting. So when I get my down time, I need to NOT have to do any of those things.
Add in the fact that I’m an extreme introvert, and just… NO. All that noise and chatter and people-ing, in an environment over which I have little control? You’d sooner find me in a mall on Black Friday. (And you’d never EVER find me there!) 😉
Well I’m certainly thankful you do post here . . . love your sense of fun . . . and love your photos!!!
Xxx – K
It’s a bit of an anomaly, suppose. But I do enjoy blogging. 🙂
And you have an awesome sense of fun yourself, K. Your posts always leave me smiling. 🙂
I totally get it — you’d be wasted on those vacuous platforms.
…and not in an “Ooooh… TEQUILA!” kind of way. 😉
