Ruby Red

I recently wrote that ‘home’ has a great many meanings.

When ‘home’ is a place, it serves a great many purposes.

My home – the physical, four-walled one – is filled with collections.

I collect – among other things – artwork, pin-ups, cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, movies, linens, music, boots (yes, I’m pretty sure I have a boot collection), and glassware.

Where glassware is concerned, I am particularly fond of ruby red depression glass.

So much so that I photographed some of it for you…

What do you collect, hmmm?

Sinful Sunday

The cabinet itself is a recent acquisition. I found it at an estate sale for next to nothing, and I love that it can hold lots of everything! πŸ™‚

You collect interesting things. The glassware is beautiful.
I collect LP vinyl records. Buttons, the ones with sayings on them not the buttons that secure a blouse). And Magnets like the ones for a frig, from the places I’ve been.

I used to have a small collection of vinyl, but I had no stereo system to play the LPs on so I got rid of it. I’ve noticed that record players are being made again now – probably because several artists are doing vinyl albums again as a “collector’s special” kind of thing – so I kind of wish I would’ve kept them!

Not a collector … I only have bits and bites of things I enjoy. As a daughter of a mother who is a hoarder … a serious mental health type of hoarder, I try my best to not ‘collect’ … but your glass is lovely … and I know where one can lay their hands on some ‘depression era’ glass … a few boxes of it actually … when it’s time for it all to go, I’ll drop you a line :>)) … nj … xx

I feel you. My stepdad was raised by hoarders, and he has that tendency himself — it makes for a claustrophobic atmosphere in my parents’ home and it stresses me out to spend time in that space.

My collections are small and mostly decorative; there is a place for everything, and everything in its place. πŸ™‚

Clever shot, Feve, that is a beautiful display case and you look lovely in it. I collect all manner of things, most images of Madame X. (I am an expert on her life) All manner of figurines, mostly female, of course. Books and mementos of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Oh, and ‘rings’.

Really? The Pan-Pacific Expo? That’s unique; I can’t say I know many other people who even know what that is, let alone collect memorabilia or ephemera related to it. πŸ™‚

And yes… ‘Rings’ makes perfect sense. πŸ˜‰ (I collect rings too, but mine are the kind that have diamonds in them. πŸ˜› )

This is really clever and so subtle. It’s gorgeous. You are absolutely a treasure πŸ™‚ I’m also a collector, antique christmas ornaments, books, cookbooks, art supplies πŸ™‚ I’ve been looking for a cabinet like yours for some time, I just keep scouring the used furniture sites for one.

I hope a cabinet pops up for you soon!

I collect books too — I have a leatherbound folio set, gold-embossed, of Shakespeare’s works, published in the 1800s. There are seven volumes and the illustrations are hand-tipped; it’s one of my favorite treasures. πŸ™‚

What a clever image, I really love how you are reflected in your treasures. I have a (very small) collection of blue glass that I treasure. Sometimes it’s just so nice to have lovely things.

There is space in everyone’s life for the appreciation of beauty; lovely things – however one interprets the term – are a delight, and I’m delighted to know you have your tiny treasures to bring you joy. πŸ™‚
