F/m-Style D/s Music
I am a fan of music. In a general way, in that I generally appreciate the creative and pitch-perfect talents of others (both vocal and instrumental). But also in specific-to-my-life ways, in that I tend to have – depending on my mood and the focus of my interest{s} at the time – tunes that ‘speak’ to me. Whether it’s because of the lyrics, the instrumentation, the style/genre, or the ‘message’ the music sends through a combination of all those things, there are things I hear that make me go, “…Oh. I like that!”
I have found over the years that certain musical compositions ‘speak to me’ in clearer voices (pun intended) than others. Below is a list of songs that – in my interpretation (key word: my) – fit with my overall… I dunno… Style(?), I guess. They will each, of course, be heard by different individuals in different ways. My way of listening to each of these selections is decidedly F/m in nature. I will try to briefly outline below the reason{s} why. 🙂
Song titles are linked to their respective YouTube videos. If you prefer to skip the explanations: the full playlist is at the end of the post. To listen to it as one stream, please scroll to the bottom of the page.

Hozier: Take Me To Church ~
I wrote a whole post about this song recently. It was one that used to not work for me. Now it does. You are welcome to read why, here.
Â
Alanis Morissette: Uninvited ~
This song was part of the soundtrack to the movie City of Angels. Knowing that context, I can easily overlook the ‘uninvited’ part of the lyrics; I accept that they went with the cinematic plot, and I apply them to real life in a “Wait… I’m not really ready for this… Am I?” kind of way. Because I think that real relationships are often difficult to accept, especially at the beginning, and especially when they are unconventional.
The rest of it also makes sense. Especially the beginning, thus:
Like anyone would be
I am flattered by your fascination with me
Like any hot blooded woman
I have simply wanted an object to crave
Â
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Dark Necessities ~
I think this song is a little bit about everything and also about nothing at all. The ‘dark necessities’ he speaks of (sings of? raps of?) can be interpreted a great many ways. There are a few lines that speak to me though, because I like the F/m imagery they project in my imagination:
Yeah, you don’t know my mind
You don’t know my kind
Dark necessities are part of my design
Tell the world that I’m falling from the sky**
Dark necessities are part of my design
&
Do you want this love of mine?
The darkness helps to sort the shine
Do you want it, do you want it now?
Do you want it overtime?
The darkness helps to sort the shine
Do you want it, do you want it now?
**Angelic (and fallen angel) imagery is often associated with D/s – though I’m not exactly sure why – and even though it’s slightly trope-y, it works for me. Maybe because I find angels fascinating, regardless of their power exchange proclivities.

Eric Church: Like Jesus Does ~
You can see my last F/m playlist (from December of 2018) for a better understanding of where I’m coming from with the deity comparison, but the bottom line with this particular tune is that “she loves me like Jesus does” is – in my opinion – not only one of the sexiest things a man could say (provided it is the truth) about a woman, but also something I strive for (quite imperfectly) with my spouse. The lyrics speak from the point of view of a man who makes mistakes, and laud a woman who loves him unconditionally through them. I don’t think that’s necessarily a D/s thing, but in long-term relationships – for me – it has definitely been an F/m thing.
Â
Imagine Dragons: Believer ~
While I’m not big on pain, I love the ‘break me down, build me up’ that repeats throughout this piece. Combined with making him ‘a believer’ (preferably believing in a woman who loves him like Jesus does, a la the above), this refrain just makes so much sexy sense to me:
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
(Pain, pain)
You break me down, you build me up, believer, believer
(Pain)
Oh let the bullets fly, oh let them rain
My life, my love, my drive, it came from
(Pain)
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
Â
Kiss: I Was Made For Lovin’ You ~
Tonight… I wanna give it all to you…
&Â
Tonight… I wanna lay it at your feet…
Do I really need to say more?
Â
Lorde: Royals ~
On the last playlist I posted of this ilk, one of my readers suggested this song.
The overall message is a bit… I dunno, downtrodden(?)… for me, but I do really Really REALLY like this one little piece:
And we’ll never be royals
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I’ll rule (I’ll rule I’ll rule I’ll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
Â
Jonas Brothers: Sucker ~
(If this was not sung in multiple male harmony, it wouldn’t do nearly so much for me.) 😉
I follow you through the dark, can’t get enough
You’re the medicine and the pain, the tattoo inside my brain
And, baby, you know it’s obvious
I’m a sucker for you
You say the word and I’ll go anywhere blindly
I’m a sucker for you, yeah
Any road you take, you know that you’ll find me
Â
Coldplay (w/ The Chainsmokers):Â Something Just Like This ~
ALL of this! What do you want? How far do you want to go? What are you willing to risk?
No superheroes necessary, no fairytale (or fantastical) BS.Â
As the lyrics say:Â I want something just like this.
(And, lest there be any confusion on the matter: I’m not looking for something like this; I already have something like this. Which is why I dig this song so hard.)
Â
Ed Sheeran: Kiss Me ~
All the sweet feels…
Settle down with me
And I’ll be your safety
You’ll be my lady
The idea of ‘safety’ when you allow another person to hold/touch/know you (physically or metaphorically) is something most of us wish for, I think.Â
And all the conflicting emotions of opening up – which is a vulnerability we all experience to some degree, regardless of the form our relationships take – is so well expressed.
Yeah I’ve been feeling everything
From hate to love
From love to lust
From lust to truth
I guess that’s how I know you
So I hold you close to help you give it up

Great list , Feve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! I was listening to the radio on my drive home from work yesterday and heard Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran and thought, “Well, that song has possibilities…”
So I thought this would be my last playlist of this variety, but if more of those “…oh…” moments take place, then maybe there will be another one down the road. 🙂
