Let’s chat. :)

Pull up a keyboard; let’s have a conversation.

I’ll start. ๐Ÿ˜‰

See, during the month of April, one of my fellow bloggers nominated me for a blogging award. And while I don’t really _do_ awards, I *do* do (sounds like doo-doo! DOH!) sharing.

So I thought I’d take some of the questions Cindi asked me and answer them here, then ask you (yes, YOU!) some in turn. ๐Ÿ™‚

She asked me ten things, so I’m going to answer five of them then ask you five things, and you can choose what you want to chat about. (Or choose something else entirely! Tell me all about your moose mating call practice or how you are crocheting toilet paper in case there is a shortage in a bathroom near you. Whatever you want.)

Q: What do you need right now?

A: Nothing, really. I mean… People conflate ‘I need __________’ with ‘I am whiny and really really want __________ and if I don’t get it, I will die’.

I’m not that person.

My needs — food, water, shelter, safety, health, love — are all met.

What would I *like* right now? Well, that’s different. And that’s easy: a vacation.

Q: What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

A: It wasn’t for me, specifically, but it was for our (my hubby and mine) household.

When he was on dialysis, the home care team (he did dialysis at home but had a team of nurses to whom he reported) worked together with a local nonprofit to provide the households of all their patients with gift cards at the holidays. On one of his visits to the kidney center to have his blood drawn, one of the nurses gave him a holiday card. Tucked inside was a $50 gift card for a local grocery store. It was totally unexpected, and more than welcome; medical treatment is expensive, and even though we were making ends meet, finances were stressful. It was a beautiful gesture. Nobody had ever done anything like that for me and mine before. I was moved to tears.

Q: How would you like to be described?

A: That kind of depends on who is doing the describing. I think in most aspects of my life I’d like to be described – and probably would be described – as a person who provides a safe space. Be it for learning or communicating or exploring an idea or expressing an opinion/emotion.

My husband, though… If asked to describe me, he’d probably say, “She’s brilliant.”

*laugh*

No, actually it’d be more like, “She’s cute when she’s tired. Oh, and she hates cleaning the cat box.”

Q: Where do you want to be right now?

A: As of the time of this writing, I’d like to be… Right here, writing this post. ๐Ÿ™‚

Q: Name one of your skills that you would like to teach others.

A: This one is kind of tough, because I’m not so sure that I’d like to teach it to others but I *do* wish more people had a knack for it or were open to picking up good habits in this way: THRIFT.

Now YOU!

Feel free to add your thoughts on the above, or answer any/all of the below:

  1. What book{s} are you reading these days?
  2. What is your favorite flower?
  3. If your recreation or other forms of enjoyment have been interrupted by the current stay-home orders affecting many people/places: What do you miss most about ‘before’?
  4. What blog/ger do you recommend reading and why?
  5. Tell me one thing about yourself that you are proud of.

Let’s chat. ๐Ÿ™‚

    I’ll take Reading for $200, Alex…
I’ve been binging on Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series, alternating with “A Time of Gifts” by Patrick Leigh Fermor when I feel I’m getting too frivolous. (Or too depressed that I’ll never really meet a sexy werewolf – whichever comes first!)
Next will be Eleanor Oliphant. ;-D

I had to look up A Time of Gifts; it’s strange to think that the 1930s began 90 years ago!

I’ve heard mixed reviews on Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. (Which is always the case with stories that get co-opted for movies, isn’t it?) I’m curious what you’ll think of it. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I remember when Running With Scissors came out. ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. I like daisies too. I planted some from seed this year… Only you’re supposed to plant them in little paper cups and sit them in the window for three weeks til the sprout, THEN put them in the ground. But I was like, “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” and just plunked them in the dirt. *laugh*

      3. I don’t have the kind of job that translates very easily to working from home. I’m doing it — only a little bit, because being an essential worker mostly means I still GO to work — but I gotta say I don’t like it. My home is my sacred space, emphasis on the MY. So having work invading that space is really uncomfortable.

      4. That’s one meme I’ve yet to get involved with. I often see people’s responses though. ๐Ÿ™‚

      5. That’s a great thing to have, and even better to be proud of. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What book{s} are you reading these days?
A whole bunch… six books about the Kent State Shootings, three books about pandemics (The Plague, The Scarlet Plague and the Immune), five books about the crap that Donald Trump is doing, and my newest book “All the President’s Women” about all of the women who have accused Trump of sexual assault.

    What is your favorite flower?
Purple flowers: Irises, Lavender, Lilacs and Pansies.

If your recreation or other forms of enjoyment have been interrupted by the current stay-home orders affecting many people/places: What do you miss most about โ€˜beforeโ€™?
Probably going out for dinner. Thank goodness for curbside take out. Also going to the nail salon for a pedicure

Pedicure!!! Yes, that would be lovely. ๐Ÿ™‚

I miss going out to eat. It’s something my husband and I do often – under normal circumstances – together as a kind of ‘date’. Take-out and delivery are just not the same. Sure, the food is fine. But it’s not the same as eating in a restaurant. And it certainly doesn’t feel like a date!

      Found it. ๐Ÿ™‚

You read A LOT! I started tracking my books on Goodreads a few years ago; I average 1-2 books per week, but they are all the paper/cover/spine kind — I just can’t get into e-readers.

I often read more than one book at a time too; I read at different speeds depending on content, and I like to have multiple options to suit my many moods. ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to pay a visit to Eye. It’s been a while since I popped in to her site. ๐Ÿ™‚
