Saturday Night Fever: Stuffed Kitty

(NO, not like that.)

This little guy^ came quite unexpectedly in the mail a couple days ago.

The conversation, as I recall, was about books. Or rather, it was about the fact that in 2020, I read less books than I normally do. (I know this because I started keeping track of my finished titles on Goodreads back in 2017, a year during which I read 70 books; by contrast, in 2020, I read 54. Which is still a lot by most people’s standards, right? I mean, I get that. But still.)

And somewhere along the meandering path our conversation took, I sort of went, “…hmmm…” and stated that I wondered whether I should get a stuffed kitty.

Because you see, when my cat was alive (and just being an asshole in a typically-feline way as opposed to being a complete disaster of elderly kitty-ness and destroying my house in his remaining days), he would jump up in my lap when I was sitting in my chair (and it is *my* chair; I yell at my husband when he tries to sit in it) reading. He would also snuggle up with me at night while I was reading in bed and would sort of randomly sprawl out next to my various volumes that take up space on every available surface in the house and just… purr… in a “I’ma sleep here and guard your books, mom” kind of pose.

So in my thinking-aloud cloud conversation I mentioned something along the lines of: I think maybe I read less last year because for the second half of it I didn’t have a cat to keep me company.

And I said, “Maybe I should get a stuffed kitty.”

And so I did get one.

Unexpectedly.

In the mail.

From him.

And you know…

There’s just something extra special about unexpected small sweetnesses. 🙂
