Have you tried Wordle yet?
Y’all know I love my word games, but mostly I stick to Scrabble-type stuff. Also, I try to avoid apps because they kill my battery. So it’s taken me a while to catch on to the whole Wordle thing.
But you can do it without installing anything on your phone!
So once I found that out, I tried it.
For those of you who are curious about it but haven’t yet tried, here’s how it works:
- You get six tries to guess a five-letter word of the day
- When you type in a guess, the game will highlight letters — yellow means the letter is in the word but you currently have it in the wrong place; green means it’s the correct letter, correctly placed
So my first Wordle started like this:
So the word had a C in it, but my C in ‘which’ was in the wrong place.
Second try:
Nope, not ‘candy’. But now the CA at the beginning is correct.
Third try:
Getting closer…
.
.
.
Etc.
SO
I figured out the Wordle the first day in five tries. (I started playing on Wednesday, so I’ve only played for times so far.) The second day, I did not get it. (If you know what the word was that day — I had four of the letters but my blank spot had about eight possibilities; I just chose the wrong one. Grrr…) I figured it out in five tries on the third day and three tries on the fourth.

So I’m trying to explain this game to my husband, right?
And he’s like, “What’s a Wordle?”
(Which totally surprised me, because he is kind of ‘up’ on everything that’s happening in the news, no matter how trivial. While I, on the other hand, do not normally pay attention to much of anything in ANY kind of news, especially not to whatever is currently ‘hip’ in pop culture.)
He says, “Wordle… Oh, is that where you gurgle your words?”
o_O
“NO.”
Weirdo.
So I’m trying to explain this game to him verbally, but he’s just not getting it. To illustrate, I send him a screenshot of my first Wordle with the simple explanation: Wordle.
And when he looks at it (several hours later — he is notoriously bad at checking text messages), he texts me back: Weirdle.
So I guess if he’s a weirdo, I’m a Weirdle.
You?
I’m gonna have to check it out!
Have fun! 🙂
Have you seen dordle, quordle and octordle? You’re welcome. (Quordle and octordle have daily games AND practice / random games so you can KEEP PLAYING).
At Bett’y’s house for dinner last night our post meal entertainment was 3 women gathered around one mobile phone playing Quordle.
ENjoy!
Oooh… I will check them out!
They recently “updated” the game.
And now instead of just guessing 5 letter words you can choose to guess 4,6,7,8 letter words!
I like the 5 word game just fine.. but it’s fun playing the other ones too!
For once, an update that makes a game BETTER. *laugh*
Thank you, I will look into it. 🙂
I saw tweets of Wordle results (not the words, only the blocks) and wondered what it was, then read an article about it, and ever since then I am hooked! But, my husband is with yours… he thinks it’s ‘weirdle’ *grins

Ha! Well, hello fellow Weirdle. 😉
I tried quordle this morning — 4 wordles at once, 9 tries to get them all.
No way, Jose! I hate when people post their wordle whatever on fb. Like I care how good they are or are not at their game? Laughing. Your explanation was the best I have read so far, so thank you for that. Life keeps me guessing enough — I am not going to make a game out of it. LOL!!!! Good luck to you though, and have fun!! I’m with your hubby on this one! 🙂
Haha! Fair enough. 😉
I didn’t know what it was – and keep seeing people on Twitter and other places talking about it and all i see is coloured boxes and i am thinking this is crazy! So TY for assuring me it is crazy but there are letters involved. It reminds me of a game called mastermind i used to play when i was a kid. That had these pegs that u used to tell someone if they had guessed right and i think a range of colours – but it is so long ago the actual idea of the game escapes me.
I wanted to give Wordle a try – i think it would be good for me as i am dyslexic but i don’t want to download an app – where do u play it without doing that?

Just Google “wordle” and it should be the first result you see. (It’s a New York Times game.) Click the link and play. Easy, peasy.
Got it! 🙂
Interesting. Need to try.
