Minding the Gap: Downsizing

black lace bra

I went bra shopping today.

[pause, while the ladies all collectively groan]

And it was…

Not terrible.

*laugh*

I mean, it can be terrible amiright?!

But I managed to find bras — plural — that fit and I even had a coupon. (Woot!)

And it took less than 30 minutes. (Even more wooty!)

So I thought I’d do a bit of show and tell.

The only ‘show’ I have for the moment is the black lace bralette-looking jobby-do above. But it’s not a pull-over-the-head style bralette — I dislike those, because I’m all broad shoulders and brawny heft on the top so if it’s not a sports bra it just doesn’t work to put on a bra that way for me — and instead, it has a regular hook-and-eye closure in the back with a broad band. The last bit was like, “Ooooh! Aaaah!” for me. *laugh* Because it’s not normally something you can find in an A-cup.

Yes, I am now an A-cup.

I told you recently that menopause has not only reduced my libido, it has also reduced the size of my breasts. My 36B bras (not all of them, but enough of them that it’s an issue) have started gapping.

So today I set out with ‘the gap’ in mind and figured I’d be lucky if I found something that worked.

Well, I was lucky.

I got the black lacy beauty above — which I will try to remember to take a picture of when I wear it — as well as a reduced-size version of this bra, in nude. My other find was a sports-style bra with a hook-and-eye closure. It’s pink… Which, I just realized, means I have no panties to match it. *laugh* So it might be a while before I wear that one. (I’m oddly OCD about matchy-matchy undies.)

Anywhoo…

Bra shopping, jeans shopping, and swimsuit shopping are all typically UGH events for me. I’m always thrilled when I find something that works, but usually it takes more patience than I was born with and requires a willingness to set aside any and all body (or size) confidence that I might have gained since the previous ugh-shopping adventure.

But today…

Well, today was NOT ugh.

So I’m happy about that. 🙂

.

What kinds of not-ugh experiences are YOU having this weekend, hmmm?

Most women experience frustration with bra shopping, regardless of what size they wear. I’m just glad I was able to find something that fit both my budget and my body. And it’s cute, to boot!

Bra shopping… ugh! I really need to go to a place that can measure me properly so I KNOW what size I need to buy, because I can never find something that’s comfortable. And I am right there with you about bras you have to pull over your head…

Bra shopping is painful. I know you’re right, that all of us who must do this find challenges, but finding cute, comfy and appropriate for adult bodies, as an A cup, is really hard. Well, without buying from specialist online makers. I’m very impressed with the outcomes of your trip, and I
This one looks fantastic on (as your other post showed!) N xx
