Bedtime Rituals

We have little rituals we follow at bedtime.

There is a bit of pacing about, picking up the detritus of the day after/while/before putting on pajamas. There is a wandering from room to room, where I turn on lights looking for something and he turns off lights trying to “shut down the house.”

I take my meds.

I get in bed.

And after I’m settled (which can take a couple minutes or a couple hours, depending on how wound up I am or how ‘into’ the book I’m currently reading I am or how many emails I’m still trying to answer via my phone app before the day is done), there usually commences a good deal of yawning.

Followed by, “Smotch-eeeeee!”

And this is the cue for my husband (his nickname is Smotch, for those of you who are new) to detach himself from his Youtube videos (I refuse to pay for television services; therefore, this is his viewing addiction) and come tuck me in.

Which mostly consists of:

  • plugging my phone into my wall charger for me, and
  • turning off my light

*laugh*

Yes, I know I could do both of those things myself.

But, as I frequently tell him:

That’s not my job.

*laugh*

SO

That is our bedtime ritual.

If you have one, please use the comments and tell me:

What is yours?

My theme for this year’s A-to-Z Challenge is Twenty(-six) Questions.

For the letter B, the question I both answer and ask is: What are your bedtime rituals?

Favorite Authors

I am a lover of books. Book stores – especially used book stores; pre-read is pre-loved – are among my limited “happy places.” I am rarely without a pile of “am reading” books and am NEVER without a stack — I have a whole bookshelf and then some, actually — of “to be read” books.

There are, though, some books I gravitate to more than others.

And that has everything to do with the authors.

I don’t just have *a* favorite author though. (Does anyone?)

I have favorites.

A few of mine are:

Shall I go on? *laugh*

I suppose I could divide authors into genres…

And sub-genres…

Especially in fiction.

And then of course, I would have to think about my non-fiction ‘favorites’ list.

And children’s lit.

Poetry. (Some of the best poets are/were musicians. Rest in peace, Len Cohen.)

Erotica writers. Humorists. Essayists.

Oh! And then there’s short-form writing. And authors of blogs. (And authors of blogs who became authors of books.)

IT NEVER ENDS.

*laugh*

But I think, for the purposes of this post, this is where I’ll end. 😉

Do you have [a] favorite author{s}?

How long is YOUR list?

Welcome to my 2022 A-to-Z writing project!

(For more information about the A-to-Z, or to get involved yourself, please click the badge above.)

This month I will be asking – and answering – Twenty(-six) Questions. I hope you will join me in this little get-to-know-you exercise. (And feel free to ask some questions of your own along the way!)

A-to-Z Challenge 2022: Twenty(-six) Questions

The A-to-Z Challenge is on again here at Temperature’s Rising for the fifth year, and for this round I have decided {1} to go with a theme (Woot! Go me! *laugh*), and {2} to post once for every letter of the alphabet.

As to {2} — You are probably thinking, “Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do?”

Well… Yes? *laugh* But what makes you think I normally do what I’m ‘supposed’ to do? 😛

The past couple years, I have managed a theme but have combined letters. Whereas, the first two years I did this challenge, I had no theme (unless Post Something! counts as a theme?) but was able to manage 26 individual posts.

But now, since this is year number five for me, I kinda felt like I should mark the occasion by combining both skill sets. *laugh*

o_O

We’ll try it, anyway.

So here’s how it’s going to work:

  1. I will post, throughout the month of April, a question for each letter of the alphabet.
  2. You (hopefully!) will answer a few, as the mood suits you.

Deal?

They will not be terribly complicated. They will also not (all) be particularly sexy.

But I thought this would be a fun way to start a few “get to know you” type conversations — especially since some of my audience members are new(-ish) to this space — and I’m also hoping it might encourage some of my shy-er readers to peek out (or speak out) of their hiding places. 🙂

This is intended to be fun — and interactive! — and LOW KEY.

I hope you will join in!

(And if you are a blogger, and you want to join in with the month-long project on your own blog, I wrote up a little how-to a while back that you can access, here. You can also access the general A-to-Z site by clicking on the badge above.)

Meanwhile: On Friday, April 1st, my personal version of Twenty(-six) Questions will begin!

Bees

Bees are industrious creatures. They buzz and zizzer and pollenate and honeycomb almost constantly.

Like humans — who are generally not nearly so usefully industrious — they sleep between five and eight hours a day.

One of the ways bees catch their winks is in pairs.

They nap together.

Inside the petals of flowers.

With their feet twined.

And you know…

On this sleepy Saturday need-a-nap afternoon, after an exhausting week full of busy-bee-ing…

I can’t really think of a more delightful way to be{e}.
