Reflective

This was one of the photos I took while trying to capture light blurs for the ‘bokeh’ prompt in December.

I was originally saving this shot for February Photo Fest, but I decided to use it as a how-to example for a photo editing tutorial instead.

So for those of you who are curious (or who are thinking of participating in FebPhotoFest but are feeling daunted):

To see the steps I took to create the version of this image that you see here – or to see some online photo editing basics that I generally find useful/helpful/amazing/not-too-difficult – please see the tutorial I posted yesterday. ๐Ÿ™‚

Photos were one of the things I started my blog with (I had a weekly photo-post project at the beginning), but I got frustrated (with the equipment, both physical and technical) so for a long while I just focused on writing and my photo skills fell by the wayside.

I decided last year that I would participate in Molly Moore’s FebPhotoFest, which was the impetus for the self-teaching about photo editing that followed throughout the year. It *can* be time-consuming (it’s a bit of a delightful rabbit-hole to scurry down), but once you get the hang of it, it’s fairy simple and doesn’t take much time at all.

I tend to edit in batches now. I’ll sort of mentally pre-edit a few photos then sit down to do them all in a chunk when I have time to sit at my PC.

I am delighted that February Photofest inspired you to learn and try more. It is as you so rightly say a rabbit hole but like you one that I love

I’m not a visually motivated person, but I enjoy the creative process. So I try to approach photos as an artistic endeavor. I am also trying to understand my own body, and as much as self-portraiture can be challenging for me, I’ve found some of those challenges – and overcoming them – to be positive.

Light is fun to experiment with, in all its forms. Candles, sunlight, torchlight, car headbeams… I highly recommend experimentation; you’d be surprised how well “Hmmm, let’s try this!” can turn out. ๐Ÿ™‚
