Beating Off

or, err…

BEING Off

(I mixed my message a bit up there when I was thinking, “Nothing beats being off!”)

😛

So I was (mostly) off this week.

Meaning: I accepted only the work that was unrelated to That One Stressful Contract I Hate Loatheâ„¢ and otherwise lounged about being lazy.

Which meant that on Monday, I showed up for an appointment that my client did NOT show up for (I still get paid, so it’s no hardship on me; it is irritating though) and was therefore done with my ‘work day’ and home by noon. Tuesday, I wore the outfit pictured above for about five hours (I didn’t shower until 11am — Woot! — and then I got a call to cover an evening gig which started at 5pm, for which I had to change into something more suitable), during which time I had to make a run to Kohl’s — which was hugely inconvenient, but it couldn’t be helped — because they’d left a security sensor on an item I purchased over the weekend.*

And here are the sleeves (because, obvs: I suddenly have a thing for sleeves):

Wednesday my ‘day off’ was Take Your Wife To Work Day** for my hubby, which meant I worked with him on a boat (I call it ‘the steak boat’ because its name is the same as that of a steakhouse restaurant that once existed in my hometown) for most of the day, which… Wood. That’s pretty much all I have to say about that. So. Much. WOOD. (And no, not the sexy variety. But definitely the dirty kind!)

Pro Tip: Don’t buy a boat.

If, however, you do buy a boat: Don’t buy a boat with slatted wooden cabinets every-fucking-where.

And if you ignore all THAT advice, here’s a pro tip for getting those fuckers clean: a toothbrush, Murphy’s Oil Soap, Q-tips for the angled corners, a helluvalot of patience, and elbow grease.

Yeesh.

Personally, I’m going for Pro Tip #1. Just say NO to the boat!

Anywhoo…

On with my beating off.

So on Thursday, I was actually OFF, off. Like, didn’t have to work at all. Nobody called for last-minute stuff. Smotchy went to work alone. I didn’t have to run any errands or show up to anyplace for anyone at any time. We went to dinner in the evening (hooray! an open restaurant!) and even though it’s local and a total hole-in-the-wall, it was swamped. We waited forever for our food, which was delish despite the wait, and even though we had to wait I could see the workers were hustling their buns off (and I’m so So SO glad that at least one small business in my community is still alive) so I left a large tip and hope like hell they’re still serving food the next time I get hungry for Mexican food.

And then today…

I have an appointment (work) this afternoon but it should be short.

Then I’m off the weekend.

Oh, and I was off at the very beginning of the week too (Sunday), which I probably should have led with. We ate restaurant food that day too but it felt really meh because {1} it was sandwiched between running errands, and {2} my belly was like, NOPE.

Oh! But also, my Sunday sleeves***:

SO.

That was my (off) week.

How was yours?

*Seriously, stuff like this drives me BONKERS. if I had a nickel for every hour I’ve ever had to spend of my own time to deal with somebody else’s mistake, I’d have a hefty little nest egg.

**Not an actual day, except for my spouse and I. We totally made it up. We do things like that.

***My sartorial suite shown in this post came from my second ride on the SHEIN train. This time around I didn’t do quite as well as the first try, but three out of five ain’t bad. Perhaps I’ll show you the other keeper soon. 🙂

first, sleeves are totally the IN thing this year. Not that i’m about trends or anything, but since that’s the ONE thing I *can* rock… also I’m loving that animal print on the sleeves!

second, i recently had a SHEIN haul that didn’t put a grin on my face either. It was a brown dress that looked totally floaty and fanciful in the picture but on my skin turned out to look super duper frumpy. I won’t even post it. It’d crash my blog I bet.

third, wooden slatted things are the bane of my existence. ANY slatted things really. Flat surfaces are the way to go imo.

and finally, my greatest peeve is having to be inconvenienced for OTHER PEOPLE’S incompetence. I find myself wishing people would get their shit together at least once a day!

I ordered 5 things the second time — 3 are okay, 2 of which are pictured here. One of my “no fucking way” items was a pink dress that, in actuality, is NOT a dress but a tent and barely long enough to be considered a shirt. I prefer not to flash my hoo-ha in public, thankyouverymuch!

And that wood took for.fucking.ever to clean. It didn’t *look* dirty, but it WAS. We spent four hours (4 hrs x 2 people = 8 hrs) on that boat and there’s still more to do! 😱

I like dresses/long tops, just not this horrid pink tent that is neither one nor the other. *laugh*

I don’t mind tights as long as they don’t squeeze my middle into a sausage roll — and YES, leggings. 🙂

Your advice about boats is spot on, in my opinion. And the slats…oh my fucking god…no.
As for sleeves, yes. I am fully supportive of this new trend. But, online shopping? I get it – half or more of what I buy goes back, as I simply cannot figure out how those things look that good on the models and then look like sacks on me (or like I’ve squished myself into a tube). Good that you have a bit of time off, though.

Those slats — there are more, different ones, not on cabinets but as designs on walls… *shudder*

My husband is going to have to figure those ones out himself.

Plus — OMG, boat yoga. Like, you have to twist yourself into all kinds of squishy bendy reachy positions to get to everything because, tight quarters. Holy schlamoly! It was a workout. *laugh*

And YES to the 50% online shopping fail. Mostly I pass an item on or take it to consignment/resale if it doesn’t work for me because online returns are such a hassle. But I’ve done better via SHEIN, surprisingly. Two orders, 12 items total, 9 keepers from the whole lot. It’s not like shopping in store (I miss being able to try things on!) but it’s not bad overall.

I love that you are so into sleeves at this moment. I seem to be into dresses with flower prints. I have bought quite a couple of those in the past year, and am constantly looking for more 😉
Love your sleeves, and your advice about buying a boat!

I am very limited in what I can wear for work, so I find things I like — animal print fabrics, decorative sleeves — and then mostly they just hang in my closet for months on end until I have a day off on which to wear them.

It’s silly, I suppose. But sometimes it’s fun to just enjoy something for its own sake, even if it is a bit frivolous. 🙂

Well thank you. I did not know that sleeves were an in thing right now. I need to do a sleeve inventory on my wardrobe as I think I do have some which could join the fun. Missy x
