Somehow we have come to the end of September without my having written many of the musically-inspired posts I meant to.
It seems that every year I do this project, I have ^that feeling^ to some degree. But being interrupted by LifeTM is just what happens when you’re living it, I guess. And this month my surgery took quite a lot out of me.
I *did* have some ideas going into this project, however, that while I may not have time to pound out into the full expansions they deserve, may be fun to share in micro-concept.
~~~~~~~~~~
IDEAS
The lyrics: “If your body matches what your eyes can do…” from The Paralyzer by Finger Eleven — Let’s just say this has all kinds of sexy potential, eh? 😉
The song title: Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye — I don’t spend a lot of time dwelling on the past, not in terms of things that happened nor in terms of people I once knew. However, I think I’ve had some significant endings (of relationships) – and one-offs – in my lifetime that would be worth exploring in writing.
The musical concepts: Dissonance and Harmony — or, perhaps, harmony in dissonance? There are a lot of places to go with this idea, but since relationships is kind of what I stick to in this space, and familial relationships tend to have the most resounding dissonance for me (over time, yes, but particularly right now), and I’ve moved a metaphorical three octaves away from the majority of the members of said family… Well. There’s a lot there. With instrumental music to illustrate.
The song that is a lesson: She Ain’t Pretty (she just looks that way) by The Northern Pikes — There’s story potential here, for sure. There’s also the concept of the femme fatale, the mean girl who’s only as beautiful as her face, the idea of female villains in stories and how they are often described as pretty until it’s proven that they ugly. (Being a reader, I could easily go off into book-review-ville along this line.)
Photography inspirations: Blue on Black by Kenny Wayne Shephard Band — perhaps similar to last year’s Blue Jeans, White Shirt post but from an up-angle showing black and blue; my skin is very fair where the sun hasn’t touched it, and it occurs to me that those pale places photographed on a dark night would be an interesting take on Moonlight Sonata; Here Comes The Rain Again has potential for outdoor photos in my nearly-always-wet clime.
There are also *concepts* that could so easily be explored through music: time, love, seasons, belonging, loss, lessons learned.
And instruments to discuss.
And staffs.
Keys.
Rest.
…and all the rest. 🙂
BUT
There are only so many days in September. And there was only so much I could manage this time around.
Perhaps next September.
(So! Many! IDEAS!)
If you were here to join me ‘in song’ this month: Thank you.
And if you wrote something for the September Song Project on your own blog but have not received a comment from me, that means I don’t have your link. Please leave one in the space below. (Also, if you have ideas for song-inspired posts/topics, feel free to leave them in the comments section as well.)
This will be the final post for the 4th year of the September Song Project. (For more information about the project, click the badge above.) The title of this post was taken from Natasha Bedenfield’s Unwritten, which includes a number of lyrics with story-telling potential… But again: I’m out of time. So perhaps I will delve further into that tune the next time around. 🙂
Thank you for supporting my musical musings this month. We will now return to our regularly scheduled programming…
On the last day of September, here’s my offering for the end of this year’s project: https://kdaddy23.wordpress.com/2022/09/30/life-living-and-loving-mrs-fevers-september-song-project-2022-in-my-dreams/
Wish that I could join in, but I’ve been on a bit of an adventure of my own…down the rabbit hole.
Mainly wanted to wish you a speedy recovery.
The ideas for the project sound close to heart, as Music is my primary muse.
Be well.
Chazz
I do this every September so you’re welcome to join me next year if you’re interested. 🙂
Hi Mrs Fever –
I write a lot of posts inspired by music, but just recently I decided to highlight some on Medium which had been overlooked – May and Marie help each other this way every month. Spooookily enough I used Natasha B’s “unwritten” in the flash fiction too!
Sorry to hear you’ve recently had surgery, but I hope you’re getting back to full strength now.
And now for the correct link … (although that last one was song related too!) https://medium.com/illumination/she-sings-the-songs-that-make-the-world-go-round-b46dc735d088?sk=073bab42b366d01a644d658a624c1bd2
Nice. I can’t say I have a musical response to every question asked of me, but lyrics definitely thread their way through many of life’s scenarios. 🙂
