Books

From the time I could hold them in my hands — well before I could sound out the letters or understand the concept of words — I have loved books.

As a young child, I was enamored of the library.

As a pre-teen, I discovered the joy of saving money for, and then buying, my own books.

When I was in college, I was appalled at the cost of books — even used books! — but always strove to purchase all the recommended texts – even if they weren’t required – for my courses and hated to part with them (so I often didn’t… which meant that every time I moved from place to place, I had to haul along hundreds of pounds of pulp) at the end of each semester.

Nowadays, my house is filled with books.

And book stores — particularly the indie variety, and especially the ones that sell both new and used titles on their shelves — are my Happy Place.

Juicy?

The night I stole borrowed purloined my husband’s Batman jammies, he teased me that he would be excited to put them on and wear them himself once I’d “gotten my juices all over them.”

I wasn’t feeling particularly ‘juicy’ when he made that comment, but after snuggling into the warmth of my bed and burrowing, tummy-curled into the mattress and therefore feeling warm and snuggly (you know that warmth is a thing for me now, right? whereas I used to run a constant inner temp of 3,794 degrees thanks to my PCOS, my peri-menopausal body is now a tundra… and my vagina is an igloo), other bits of me started to get warm too ifyouknowwhatImean, and I thought, “Why not give those bits a snuggle too?”

And so I ‘snuggled’ my lady bits. 😉

‘Getting’ It

This past Christmas, my husband said to me:

“I’ve finally figured out — after 17 years — that the key, for you, when it comes to Christmas gifts… is cuteness.”

And y’know…

Is that *really* so hard to figure out?

: laugh :

Yes, I like cute things.

I like the ‘pretty’ kind of cute and the ‘cuddly’ kind of cute and the {im}practical-but-beautiful things that decorate my life. I am a fan of cute wrapping paper and sweet, silly socks; cute cookie jars make me smile and I’m likely to don a pair of fuzzy jammies and take ‘cute’ (ahem) photos in them.

So yes. When it comes to gifts, cute is a pretty safe bet.

But really…

When it comes to gifts…

It’s not so much about *what* you get me as it is that I need for you to show me that you ‘get’ me.
